Given that those who are treated for cancer are already at risk of malnutrition and are often provided with treatments to increase their appetite as needed to keep them alive and avoid electrolyte shifts that can be fatal, this is a loaded statement. Furthermore, on my brief investigation into clinical papers versus cells in a dish publications does not yield any results towards a definitive association between autophagy and outcomes aside from prognostic predictions, which are not enough to suggest that autophagy plays a clinically significant role.
